Francesco Fontana in Sicily

Francesco Fontana is a professional artist with long years experience in oil, acrylics, watercolor and dry media.

He has widely worked as a portrait artist and exhibited his landscapes and abstracts series in France and Italy. His paintings are present in many private collections.

Before being a full time painter, Francesco has worked as a graphic designer and illustrator. He created posters, books and advertising campaigns for International cultural events such as theatre, classic music, jazz festivals, and symphonic orchestras. Other specialty works include a series of large watercolor renderings for huge architectural projects in Middle-East.

He's currently committed as a teacher of representational painting in his studio and as a workshop leader, to artists-in-progress of any age. In 2008 in founded the artists association Fare Pittura, based in Milan Italy, of which is president.

He received his BFA in Palermo, Sicily and attended further years of classes and workshops with Italian senior masters as Maiotti, Lissoni and Pelizzoni Italy. Francesco has lived in Paris and London and fluently speaks Italian, English and French. He's the happy father of two little great girls: Teresa and Flora.

Twilight

Francesco Fontana (c) Dance of LightWhen the sun in that particular angle at dawn or dusk called Twilight hits the planet, the light reflects dramatically on the concrete planes of waters, grounds and on the air. Thus revealing an endless spectrum of hues and the extreme abstraction of forms.

That is deeply inspiring to me but also a real challenge -- considering the countless artists who faced a similar subject matter. Falling into a postcard stereotype can be an eye shut! But I took the risk and followed my urgency to explore the absolute core of painting: light. Francesco Fontana
